Quartz

Quartz is the family that raised amethyst and citrine, and its other faces deserve the introduction: sunlit lemon, cognac smoky, and rock crystal of glass-like purity. Large, clean, precisely cut stones at prices that invite generous carats.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is quartz?

Quartz is silicon dioxide, the most versatile gem-producing mineral on Earth. Its varieties include amethyst, citrine, ametrine, lemon quartz, smoky quartz, and colorless rock crystal.

What is lemon quartz?

Lemon quartz is quartz with a bright, sunlit yellow, typically produced by irradiating and heating natural material. The color is stable, and the treatment is stated on every stone we list.

Is smoky quartz natural?

Smoky quartz owes its brown to natural irradiation acting on trace aluminium in the ground. Some market material is irradiated artificially, which is why we state per stone what it is and what was done to it.

What is rock crystal?

Rock crystal is pure, colorless quartz, valued for glass-like transparency and precise cutting. It has served as a gem and carving material for thousands of years.

How is quartz quality evaluated?

Eye-clean clarity is the baseline the material allows, even color without dead zones separates fine stones from commercial goods, and cut quality decides the rest. In this family you are buying selection and cutting more than rarity.

Is quartz durable enough for daily wear?

Yes. At 7 on the Mohs scale, quartz varieties handle rings, pendants, and earrings in daily wear with routine care. Avoid prolonged strong sunlight, which can soften some colors over time.

What documentation comes with a stone?

Every quartz ships with the Sosna Gems Colored Stone Report, our internal documentation. Independent laboratory certification can be arranged on request for any stone.

Can you source a quartz beyond the visible selection?

Yes. The online collection is only part of our sourcing reach. Contact us with the variety, tone, and size you are looking for and we will search individually.

How do I choose between two similar quartz stones?

Judge the cut and the evenness of color. In a family where clean material is abundant, the stone that returns light uniformly across the whole face is the one worth owning, whatever its size.
