Gemstone Selection
Gemstone selection is not about preference or visual impact alone. It is about understanding how a stone will behave once it becomes part of a piece meant to be worn, lived with, and trusted over time.
Natural gemstones are not standardized materials. Each stone has its own internal structure, natural variations, and physical limits formed over geological time. These characteristics influence durability, setting options, and long-term wearability — often in ways that are not immediately visible.
Part of our role is to translate these material realities into clear guidance. We assess structural integrity, proportions, internal tension, and how a gemstone will respond once set and worn regularly. This allows clients to make decisions without needing technical knowledge or prior experience.
Not every visually striking stone is suitable for long-term use. Some require compromises that only become apparent years later. Our selection process is designed to avoid those compromises from the outset.
We work primarily with natural gemstones whose character and stability exist without excessive enhancement. Treatments, when present, are considered carefully and always disclosed. The focus is on stones that retain their integrity through everyday wear, not those that rely on intervention to appear suitable.
Certification plays an important role in confirming origin and identity, but it is not the decision itself. Reports provide information; judgment determines whether a stone is right for its intended purpose.
A well-chosen gemstone offers quiet certainty — and the freedom to enjoy the process that follows. It allows the design process to move forward with confidence, knowing the foundation is sound — and that the final piece will remain reliable, comfortable, and meaningful over time.

If you’re considering a bespoke piece, this is where it begins to take shape.
