Star Sapphire Natural Gemstone

Star Sapphire

Star Sapphire is a captivating variety of corundum that exhibits a rare optical phenomenon called asterism—a star-like pattern that appears to float across the surface of the stone when viewed under direct light. This effect is caused by needle-like inclusions of rutile aligned within the crystal structure, typically forming six (and occasionally twelve) rays.

Star sapphires are found in shades ranging from deep blue and gray to pink and black, with notable sources including Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and Madagascar. These gems are almost always cut en cabochon to best display their star effect.

Highly valued by collectors and connoisseurs, star sapphires combine natural durability with a touch of cosmic elegance, making them both scientifically fascinating and visually enchanting.
